SAND

The use of sand in my art is deeply personal and symbolic.

To me, art is a sacred vessel for exploring the profound mysteries of human existence.

Sand, in particular, holds a special place in my creative process. It introduces a dynamic element that forges a connection between my artwork and the natural world. Each grain of sand carries within it a history, shaped by the passage of time. As I apply this humble substance, it transforms into a powerful symbol of the ever-changing landscapes of life. The textured surface it creates adds a profound sense of depth and complexity to my work, akin to the intricate stories that are interwoven into the “sands of time”.

Incorporating sand is my reminder that, just as the sands shift and evolve, our lives too are in a constant state of flux. Through this choice of medium, I aim to provoke those who engage with my art to connect with the deep and ever-changing impressions left by the moments of our lives.

DRY PASTEL POWDER

In my creative process, dry pastel powder is a prominent protagonist. With unwavering precision and care, I meticulously craft each granule of dry pastel, akin to sculpting a symphony of color and texture. This process of fragmentation serves as a symbol, encapsulating the innate beauty discovered in the art of deconstruction. It magnifies the fragility of existence and emphasizes the subtlety of often overlooked details. Each granule, although minuscule, contributes to the whole, much like the significance of every small experience in our lives.

NEWSPAPER STRIPS

For me, working with newspaper strips provides a unique opportunity to engage in a meditative practice through my art. While the process itself may seem chaotic, I find a deep sense of calm and focus in meticulously gluing and arranging each strip. This deliberate and repetitive action mirrors the practice of meditation, where one centres one's thoughts and finds a state of calm amidst the distractions of the world.

As I work on the strips, I metaphorically reflect on the virtues of patience and organisation, qualities that are essential not only to my creative journey, but also to navigating the complexities of life. The gradual formation of a coherent whole from seemingly disparate parts is symbolic of the human ability to find meaning and unity even in the midst of life's chaos. In a way, it's a visual representation of the meditative journey of seeking inner harmony and understanding amidst outer turmoil.
